Car manufacturers are always trying to push the boundaries when it comes to making vehicles that are road legal. Giving customers something unique to purchase and drive around in can make their company stand out from the crowd, which can help with generating a consistent customer base. From tiny one person vehicles to car/plane hybrids, you’ll be surprised at how many weird and wonderful vehicles are legal on the roads.
Make sure that you stick around to find out more about some of the most unique vehicles that you won’t be able to believe are road legal.
Unique Road Legal Vehicles
Peel P50
Immortalised by the automotive entertainment show Top Gear, the Peel P50 is the smallest road legal vehicle and only fits one grown human inside; barely. You’ll be the talk of the town driving around in one of these wonderful little buggies, but you should be warned as the Peel P50 has no reverse function so make sure not to take any wrong turns. Peel Engineering now produces dozens of Peel P50s annually on a made-to-order basis, for customers including the Crown Prince of Dubai.
Twike
This incredibly cool take on a tricycle is a human-electric powered hybrid that, believe or not, is completely road legal. There are now a few variations of the Twike with them getting larger each time and having more advanced technology that makes them safer as the series progresses. If you’re thinking of the perfect vehicle to go cruising around on a date, this might be your best choice as it combines both humour and coolness.
BMW Isetta
Taking it up a size is the BMW Isetta. This little bundle of joy is the smallest Volkswagen Beetle in production and was the car that started the craze of micro vehicles when it was first launched. The Italian feel that the car has will make you look pretty snazzy and you whip down the roads of local villas or holiday resorts. They’re still quite cheap too, as they only cost between $15,000 and $30,000.
The Neutron
Looking straight out of the film Tron: Legacy, The Neutron is the coolest looking vehicle on the list by a landslide. The motorcycle produced by Parker Brothers Concepts is made with lithium ion battery packs and a sleek body design that channels the future to its peak. The first concept was created in 2017 and there have been many adaptations since to make it road legal.
The Terrafugia Transition
We’ve been waiting for flying cars to be a thing forever and they’re finally here!.. (Sort of). This plane/car hybrid uses fuel that you can find at your local gas station and it can fold up its wings to make it completely road legal. When you want it to take flight, you can unfold the wings and soar with its 400-mile flight range at 100 miles per hour. One of the most surprising things about the Terrafugia Transition is that you can also legally park it in almost any city centre car park.
