Anupam Mittal was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, into a Marwadi family. He attended school in Delhi and went on to graduate from Boston College in Massachusetts. After personally meeting a matrimonial consultant, Mittal got an idea and launched Sagai.com in 1997, which later became Shaadi.com, a popular online matrimonial portal in India. Elara Technologies PVT Limited, based in Singapore, also owns Proptiger.com. The acquisition was aimed at enhancing the services provided by Makaan.com. Elara Technologies PVT Limited is a digital real estate marketing and transaction service provider, with major investors including SAIF Partners, Accel Partners, and Horizons Ventures. In 2014, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp acquired a 25% stake in Elara.
