Discovering the Remote Tsum Valley

When I embarked on the Tsum Valley Trek, I was struck by its spiritual atmosphere and the overwhelming kindness of its people.

Starting from Arughat or Soti Khola, the trek follows the Manaslu Circuit trail before diverging into the remote Tsum Valley. As you ascend, the scenery transforms from lush green hills to rugged, barren landscapes, with snow-capped peaks like Ganesh Himal and Sringi Himal always in view.
Key highlights include the quaint villages of Chumling, Chhekampar, and Nile, where traditional stone houses and terraced fields create postcard-perfect scenes. Trekking here felt like stepping back in time.

Tsum Valley is steeped in Tibetan Buddhist traditions. The monasteries, mani walls, and prayer flags scattered across the valley reflect its spiritual significance. A visit to Mu Gompa, one of the region’s oldest monasteries, was a personal highlight for me. The tranquility of the monastery, set against a backdrop of towering peaks, left me awestruck.
Another fascinating site is Milarepa’s Cave, a sacred meditation spot linked to the famous Tibetan saint. The stories surrounding the cave added a layer of mysticism to the journey.
