Remember Kamal Hassan starrer Indian? Released in 1996, the movie became a touted talk among cine critics and common audiences for Kamal’s incredible makeup that made it impossible to recognize one of the most talented actors in Indian cinema. The movie also had some intense fighting scenes performed by Kamal Hassan who played the character of a 60-70 years old Messiah.

Good news is the first look of Indian 2 is out and Bollywood fans are expecting a power-packed performance from Kamal Hassan.

The sequel underwent a lot of development hell before its first look was released and raised heat among the movie crazies. Directed by S. Shankar, Indian 2 is in its final stage of making. The scenes involving Kamal Hassan have already been filmed. Amidst the latest news, the makers have presented the Bollywood and South Indian star as the roaring Hindustani 2 with a compelling introduction.

The Plot

The intro video gives an invigorating glimpse of Kamal Hassan in a powerful old avatar. The teaser starts with the star speaking from a roadside phone booth. The scene jumps to a montage paired with a pumping tune. The first look drops a hint about rampant corruption in government offices and how officials accept bribes to carry out their basic duties, leading to chaos and violence.

The clip showed common people asking for an Avatar to return and save them from such a mess. The clip concluded with HINDUSTANI Kamal Hassan appearing on the screen, blurring the picture of Netaju Subhash Chandra Bose in the background. Kamal was wearing a Khakhi uniform and cap. He made a thundering announcement, “Greetings India, Hindustani is back.”

Looking back

A few days ago, some reports claimed that the movie was in its final phase. In addition, all of the scenes involving Kamal Hassan, have been filmed. Vasanthabalan, Visakhagan and Chimbu Deven worked as assistant directors under director Shankar before turning director and helping their Guru with direction in the movie as Shankar got busy directing Ram Charan-starrer RC15 simultaneously.

According to reports, Shankar directed the scenes involving Kamal Hassan and the team is currently busy shooting Siddhart-starrer scenes.

Indian 2 was announced long ago, in 2019. However, the movie faced several production-related problems during its development. A tragic accident happened on the sets and two crew members lost their lives, putting production on halt. After that, the project was further delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Indian 2 is a much-awaited film highly expected to satisfy audiences with Kamal-Shankar duet. The teaser was released yesterday and it received mixed responses from audiences. However, the question remains how audiences will react to a 100-year old man doing intense action scenes. In other words, whether the director has successfully made the action scenes believable for the audience will decide the fate of the film.

When the sequel was announced, people thought it would portray Senapathy’s journey from his childhood and what inspired him to become a freedom fighter. The movie will show his background and after-freedom episodes. However, Shankar has surprised everyone by launching Senapathy in the present period.

Final Words

Senapathy was a fierce freedom fighter. He will turn 100 years old by now. Will people accept a 100-year old man fighting? People went gaga over the action scenes in the 90’s prequel. At that time, he was 65-70 years old. However, the action scenes were made believable. Most of the movie clippings showed young Kamal Hassan’s role with Senapathy’s fight scenes. His aged character in the sequel has identifiable shades of excellent inputs from the 90’s.

However, it goes without saying that there are massive differences between a 65-year old man in action scenes and a 100-year old man fighting. Let us keep our fingers crossed as to if Shankar will be able to create magic and convince audiences.

What do you think?
