Google Pixel 8 Pro is all about its smart camera with characteristics of a phone. As Google has launched it, this must have been a well-thought design.
With every passing day, smartphones are becoming smarter, raising the pertinent question whether software will take precedence over hardware in fixing the flaws of the handset and its users as well. Google seems to have found an answer with its Pixel series smartphones. Google is all out to exploit the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and this new launch is a witness to the search engine giant’s taking the right step.
Design and Build
The Google Pixel 8 Pro sports a signature Google Pixel design. In this blog post, I will talk about my Pixel 8 Pro phone. I chose blackish grey colour because it stands out. The stylish design has a Google signature all over it. Unlike the older Pixel models, this new launch has curved and softer edges, making it easier for comfortable grip.
Camera bump is another stand-out feature. Compared to other phones, camera bump is thicker in the Pixel 8 Pro. The unique camera module features a mix of sensors and lenses, creating a unique branding that makes it a familiar Pixel phone.
Camera App
Camera is its biggest asset. Google’s approach towards camera app is truly commendable. Basically, you need to choose between whether you will take a pic or capture video and the rest of other options change based on it. For example, slow-motion, Timelapse etc are available only after you choose the video tab.
It is a sensible idea because many more preset options are already packed in Pixel 8 Pro than regular options. I will give Google full marks for its approach towards the stand-out camera app. As soon as you click on edit, the phone will immediately suggest what you can do with a particular click depending on how it was shot. Therefore, keep in mind that not all edits are available on all images.
You will get plenty of options in portraits where the app recommends blur levels, enhancements and even to display the subject in colour. This feature is truly amazing, especially if you want some stylish touch in their DPs.
Likewise, for video editing, you will have the audio erase option that enables you to eliminate layers of noise and ambient sound from a video. This feature is definitely great as the task is pretty difficult. If you capture a video that has a lot of irritating traffic noise, you can use this feature to remove the ambient noise.
There is another feature Magic Editor that comes up in the corner of the screen during your photo editing. It makes your video experience something different. It allows you to edit your old photos in a new light. Like Magic Editor in Canva, this option will provide you with multiple options with a frame, letting you choose the best option from them.
To me, camera setup is also among the best features available on Pixel 8. The spec sheet includes 48MP ultrawide sensor, 50MP main sensor and 48MP telephone sensor coupled with 5x optical zoom, which together put all the controls in a photographer’s hand. A few smartphones can come closer to Google Pixel 8 Pro in this aspect. In fact, photos captured through this Google Pixel 8 Pro look like being shot with a DSLR.
Google Pixel 8 Pro: Only about Camera?
The resounding answer is ‘NO’. Google Pixel 8 Pro is powered by Google’s Tensor G3 processor coupled with 12GB of RAM. This Google smartphone is packed with enough features that allow you to do whatever you like to do. Honestly speaking, you can handle almost everything. Thanks to its new processor, you can do a lot of things that are possible only in a few models.
Let me tell you this Google Pixel 8 can read a webpage for its users, accessible via using a Hey Google command or the Assistant button. It works a very well and with a decent ascent. Likewise, the recorder can transcribe simultaneously with great accuracy while using voice memos.
I have been using Otter to do the work for a long time. However, Otter has restrictions in the free version. The Pixel can explore it well. You can use your voice as an effective input to do many things from writing a new Google doc to messaging.
The 6-7 inch Super Actua display looks very bright at 2400+ nits peak brightness. This option will help those who often take shots in a low light condition.
Google Pixel 8 Pro: What I Didn’t Like
Google Pixel 8 Pro weighs more than 210 gms. This is why I consider the model a little bit heavy. This may be an issue for some buyers; hence, think about it before unzipping your wallet.
One thing more! When I invoked Siri, plenty of suggestions popped up in Hindi. I prefer English for language setting. I switched to English but it continued throwing some Hindi options.
Google Pixel 8 Pro: Who Should Buy It?
Without any doubt, it is a flagship model in many aspects. I do consider this Google Pixel 8 Pro primarily a smart camera packed with some wonderful phone features. Therefore, if you love taking photos and want to experiment with AI for better shots, this smartphone is surely worth your money.
Final Words
If you are buying a pixel phone, you will be getting into a different zone where you might experience issues receiving support anywhere in the country. Fortunately, Google has a presence across India. The phone carries a high price tag of Rs 106,999. Moreover, you are less likely to feel the pride of owning a Galaxy flagship or iPhone that comes with similar price tag. However, you will feel the difference only after you flip it and experience performance of its software.
