There is no doubt that we are in for another gruelling winter which means our heating bills can be exceedingly expensive for the next few months. Yes, we can put an extra few layers on but the harsh reality is that an extra few layers won’t be enough during the peak of winter. The nights will be too cold and the mornings will be too frosty so at some point, we have to put on the heating. The issue with that is that it costs money, money that not everybody has.

We all have to accept that we will be turning on the central heating system. The thing that not many of us know is that you can save money when turning on your heating. So, if you want to cut costs on your heating bill this month, you have come to the right place.

How To Save Money On Your Heating Bills

Before we start looking at ways to save money on heating bills, we all have to look at ways to avoid putting the heating on when it isn’t necessary. This is for those evenings when the house isn’t that cold but when you are sitting on the sofa not moving, it can be particularly cold. For these evenings, you should look to put on some extra layers. Now, you may think that isn’t enough however, grab yourself a hot water bottle and put it in your clothes to keep you warm. If you want even more warmth, consider having a hot drink to heat your whole body. This is rule 101 to save money on your heating bills to keep you warm.

Draughts

For old houses, draughts can literally be everywhere which is why you should look to shut those draughts out. You can lose a lot of money and heat through your windows, floorboards and doors if you are not careful. That means when you put your heating on, you will lose that heat pretty quickly and therefore, your home will become cold again.

Windows

One of the first places you need to check for draughts is your windows. However, this is quick and easy to fix so you don’t need to worry about this costing you too much. Buying draught-proofing strips for the outskirts of your windows to ensure the warm air stays in. When the heating is on, make sure you close your blinds and windows to help keep the heat in even more.

Doors

Doors can also let out a lot of heat which is why you need to find ways to ensure this heat isn’t lost. Again, draught-proofing strips will work for your door if there are draughts. For those interior doors, consider buying a draught excluder so you can keep the heat in your living room for longer and make sure to keep all of your interior doors closed to keep the cold out and the heat in. You can utilise plant hire solutions to help with your construction process of installing better doors into your interior design.

Summary

There are many ways you can save money on your heating bills this winter, this is only a select few methods to ensure you are keeping the cold air out. There may be other areas where you lose heat, such as your conservatory.
