How to Update the Date of Exit on EPF Portal in 5 Easy Steps

Date of Exit on EPF Portal

If you are an employee who has changed your job or left your employment, then you must update the date of exit on EPF portal. The date of exit is the date on which you stopped working for your previous employer and stopped contributing to your EPF account. Updating the date of exit is important for several reasons, such as:

  • It helps you to withdraw or transfer your EPF balance online without any hassle.
  • It prevents your previous employer from making any unauthorized transactions in your EPF account.
  • It ensures that you get the correct interest on your EPF balance as per the rules.
  • It avoids any confusion or discrepancy in your EPF records.

However, many employees face difficulties in updating the date of exit on EPF portal because they are not aware of the process or their previous employer does not cooperate. In such cases, you can update the date of exit yourself using the online facility provided by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

The EPFO allows its members to self-update the date of exit online using the Member e-Sewa portal. This facility is based on an Aadhaar-based one-time password (OTP) verification. Therefore, you need to have an activated Universal Account Number (UAN), a verified Aadhaar number linked with your UAN, and a mobile number linked with your Aadhaar number to use this facility.

To update the date of exit on EPF portal online, you need to follow these five easy steps:

Step 1: Log in to the Member e-Sewa portal using your UAN and password.

Step 2: Click on ‘Manage’ tab and select ‘Mark Exit’ from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Choose your PF account number from ‘Select Employment’ dropdown menu for which you want to update the date of exit.

Step 4: Fill in the date of exit and the reason for exit from the given options. The date of exit can be any day of the month in which your previous employer made the last payment to your EPF account. The reason for exit can be retirement, death in service, superannuation, permanent disablement, cessation, death away from service, or unknown.

Step 5: Click on ‘Request OTP’ and enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Select the checkbox and click on ‘Update’. You will get a confirmation message that your date of exit is updated successfully.

You can check if your date of exit is updated by selecting ‘Service History’ from the ‘View’ menu. You will see a list of all your employers with whom you have had EPF accounts along with details like date of joining, date of exit, etc.

Once you update the date of exit on EPF portal online, you cannot change it again. Therefore, make sure that you enter the correct details before submitting. If you have made any mistake or want to change the date of exit for some reason, then you need to submit a joint declaration form along with a request letter from your previous employer to your regional EPF EPF office.

Updating the date of exit on EPF portal online is a simple and convenient way to manage your EPF account. It will help you to claim or transfer your EPF balance without any delay or difficulty. It will also ensure that you get all the benefits and rights as an EPF member.
