The ICC has announced the dates for World Cup ticket sales along with revised schedules of the ODI matches. The ticket will be sold in a phased manner starting from August 25. The last phase of ticket sales for the knockout matches will start on September 5. According to reports, bookmyshow, the popular online ticket service provider, will get the right of ticket sale.
Why phased ticket sales?
ICC World Cup cricket means a mad rush for tickets as cricket fans from all over the country and even abroad love to watch the fixtures in person and cheer for their favourite team. To control the crowd, ICC has decided to sell tickets in multiple phases. The first phase will commence on August 25 for the warm-up and event games of all participating countries except India.
From August 30, tickets will be issued for India’s warm-up matches in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram. A day later, another set of tickets will roll out for India’s group matches with Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Chennai, Delhi and Pune respectively. Fans could buy tickets for the host’s games vs New Zealand in Dharmasala, vs England in Lucknow and vs Sri Lanka in Mumbai. Another phase of sales will start from September 2 for India’s ties with South Africa in Kolkata and Netherlands in Bengaluru.
The tickets for the most awaited game of the tournament, India vs. Pakistan match in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on October 14, will be sold from September 3. The ticket sale for the semifinals and finals will start on September 15.
ICC would alert fans before selling tickets in multiple phases. Fans should visit https:/www.cricketworldcup.com/register from August 15 for registration. It will allow them to get news regarding ticket sales.
The ICC and BCCI are yet to confirm their ticketing partner’s identity. However, it is believed that the Indian board could partner with bookmyshow.com for ticket distribution.
How can fans get booked tickets?
After ticket booking, fans will have the option of collecting it from the designated venue or getting it by courier. The fans will have to pay Rs. 140 rupees extra (applicable to those in India) if they want to get tickets through a courier. Fans, who buy tickets 72 hours before the scheduled fixture, will have courier options. No e-tickets will be available.
What if a game is cancelled due to rain?
If a game is cancelled due to rain, it will not be replayed on another day. However, there is one reserve day for all three knockout games.
According to ICC instructions, fans will have to register their interest through a website for a particular match after which, they will be notified about the date and time.
