PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is a central government scheme that aims to provide income support of Rs 6,000 per year to all landholding farmer families in the country. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24, 2019, and has benefited more than 11 crore farmers so far1

The scheme provides the financial assistance in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each every four months. The amount is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through Aadhaar-linked payment system. The scheme covers all landholding farmer families irrespective of the size of their landholdings.

The 14th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme is likely to be released on July 28, 2021, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The installment will benefit around 8.5 crore farmers across the country. 

If you are a farmer and want to avail the benefits of the PM-KISAN scheme, you need to check your eligibility and register yourself on the official website of the scheme. Here are some steps that you need to follow:

Check your eligibility

Before applying for the PM-KISAN scheme, you need to check if you are eligible for it. The eligibility criteria for the scheme are as follows: 

  • You must be an Indian citizen and a landholding farmer family.
  • A farmer family includes husband, wife, and minor children who own cultivable land as per the land records of the concerned state or UT.
  • You must have a valid Aadhaar card and a bank account linked with it.
  • You must not belong to any of the following categories:
    • All institutional landholders
    • Former and present holders of constitutional posts
    • Former and present ministers, state ministers, and members of parliament, state legislatures, district panchayats, municipal corporations
    • All serving or retired officers and employees of central or state government ministries, offices, departments, and its field units; central or state public sector enterprises and attached offices; autonomous institutions under government; and regular employees of local bodies (excluding multi-tasking staff or class IV or group D employees)
    • All superannuated or retired pensioners whose monthly pension is Rs 10,000 or more (excluding multi-tasking staff or class IV or group D employees)
    • All persons who paid income tax in the last assessment year
    • Professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and architects registered with professional bodies and carrying out profession by undertaking practices

Register yourself

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can register yourself for the PM-KISAN scheme online or offline. Here are some ways to register yourself: 

  • Online registration: You can visit the official website of PM-KISAN https://pmkisan.gov.in/ and click on “Farmers Corner”. There you will find an option for “New Farmer Registration”. You need to enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code and click on “Search”. If your Aadhaar details are not verified or registered before, you will be directed to a new page where you need to fill in your personal details, bank account details, land ownership details, etc. After filling in all the required information, you need to submit your application and take a printout of it for future reference.
  • Offline registration: You can also visit your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or local revenue office or panchayat office and fill up a physical application form with all the required details. You need to attach a copy of your Aadhaar card and bank passbook along with your application form. You also need to pay a nominal fee of Rs 30 for CSC registration. The CSC operator or revenue officer will verify your details and upload your application on the PM-KISAN portal.

Check your beneficiary status

After registering yourself for the PM-KISAN scheme, you need to check your beneficiary status to know if your application has been approved or rejected by the state or central authorities. You can check your beneficiary status online or through SMS. Here are some ways to check your beneficiary status: 

  • Online status check: You can visit the official website of PM-KISAN https://pmkisan.gov.in/ and click on “Farmers Corner”. There you will find an option for “Beneficiary Status”. You need to enter your Aadhaar number or mobile number or account number and click on “Get Data”. You will be able to see your beneficiary status and the details of the installments received by you.
  • SMS status check: You can also check your beneficiary status through SMS by sending a message to 155261 or 011-24300606. The message format is as follows: PMKISAN <space> <your Aadhaar number>. You will receive a reply message with your beneficiary status and the details of the installments received by you.

Update your e-KYC and land verification

One of the important steps to ensure that you receive the benefits of the PM-KISAN scheme is to update your e-KYC and land verification. e-KYC is a process of verifying your identity and address using your Aadhaar card. Land verification is a process of verifying your land ownership and area using the land records of the concerned state or UT. Both these processes are mandatory for PM-KISAN beneficiaries. Here are some ways to update your e-KYC and land verification:

  • Online e-KYC: You can visit the official website of PM-KISAN https://pmkisan.gov.in/ and click on “Farmers Corner”. There you will find an option for “e-KYC”. You need to enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code and click on “Search”. If your Aadhaar details are not verified, you will be asked to enter your mobile number linked with your Aadhaar card and click on “Get OTP”. You need to enter the OTP received on your mobile and click on “Submit for Authentication”. After successful authentication, your PM-KISAN e-KYC will be updated.
  • Offline e-KYC: You can also visit your nearest CSC centre or local revenue office or panchayat office and request for biometric-based e-KYC. You need to provide your Aadhaar card and fingerprint or iris scan for verification. After successful verification, your PM-KISAN e-KYC will be updated.
  • Online land verification: You can visit the official website of PM-KISAN https://pmkisan.gov.in/ and click on “Farmers Corner”. There you will find an option for “Updation of Self Registered Farmers”. You need to enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code and click on “Search”. If your land details are not verified, you will be asked to enter your state, district, sub-district, block, village, khasra number, etc. After entering all the required information, you need to submit your application for land verification.
  • Offline land verification: You can also visit your nearest CSC centre or local revenue office or panchayat office and request for land verification. You need to provide your Aadhaar card, bank passbook, and land records such as khasra khatauni, jamabandi, etc. The CSC operator or revenue officer will verify your land details and upload them on the PM-KISAN portal.
