SSC Stenographer 2023 Notification: Exam Pattern
The SSC Stenographer 2023 exam is an All India Open Competitive Examination for the selection of Stenographer Grade ‘C’(Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade ‘D’(Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted) in various central government ministries and departments. The exam consists of two levels, which are explained below.
Tier Type Tier – I Objective Multiple Choice Tier – II Skill Test SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ Tier-1 Pattern This is an online exam that has 3 sections. The sections are based on the following subjects:

There is a penalty for wrong answers in SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ Tier 1 Exam. For each incorrect answer, one-third of the marks will be deducted. [REVISED] The exam duration is 2 hours 40 minutes for candidates who are visually impaired. The questions except in Part III will be in both English & Hindi languages. Normalization: If the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, the marks scored by candidates will be normalized and the normalized scores will be used to determine the final merit list.
The candidates have to specify the medium of stenography test in the Application Form, otherwise the Commission will assume that they want to take the test in English. The skill test is mandatory for all the candidates, regardless of their category. Candidates who choose Hindi as the medium of stenography test will have to learn English stenography and vice versa after they get selected. VH candidates will get extra time for the transcription. They will get 75 minutes for English Shorthand or 100 minutes for Hindi Shorthand for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’ and 70 minutes for English Shorthand or 95 minutes for Hindi Shorthand for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’. The skill test will be conducted at the Regional/Sub Regional Offices of the Commission or other Centers as decided by the Commission. The candidates who are called for the skill test will receive detailed instructions from the concerned Regional/Sub Regional Offices of the Commission.
SSC Stenographer 2023: Nationality/Citizenship
To be eligible for the SSC Stenographer 2023 exam, a candidate must belong to one of the following categories:
- a citizen of India, or
- a subject of Nepal, or
- a subject of Bhutan, or
- a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Skill Test in Stenography for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’
Only the candidates who score the qualifying marks in the Written Examination as decided by the Commission will be invited for the Skill Test. The Commission may also set the qualifying marks for each part of the Written Examination.
The skill test is a qualifying test. The candidates will have to take a stenography test. The candidates will be given a dictation for 10 minutes in English / Hindi at the speed of 100 w.p.m. for Stenographer Grade C’ and 80 w.p.m. for Stenographer Grade D’. The dictation will have to be transcribed on the computer only. The transcription will be evaluated electronically only. The transcription time is as follows:-

Note: Candidates who choose Hindi as the medium of stenography test will have to learn English stenography and vice versa after they get selected, otherwise their probation may not be cleared by the appointing departments.
