Top 5 Lowest Team Scores in T20Is

1. Rwanda:

Rwanda are at the fifth spot in the list. In 2023, they were bowled out for just 24 runs against Nigeria. Asked to bat first, Rwanda were bowled out inside 7 overs in a game that was reduced to 9-over a side. They lost two wickets inside the first over and just could not recover.

As many as five of their players could not even score a single run while none of them managed to reach double-digits. Orchide Tuyisenge  and Muhammad Nadir were the joint top-scorers, scoring 6 runs each as Rwanda were bowled out for 24 runs in 6.1 overs.

For Nigeria, Peter Aho picked up 4 wickets while Joshua Asia claimed 3 wickets. With the bat, Nigeria chased down the total in 6.1 overs by losing two wickets.

2. China:

At number four in this list are China. In 2023, they were bowled out for just 23 runs against Malaysia. China captain Wang Qi won the toss and opted to bat first and it did not take him long to regret the decision as his team fell like a pack of cards.

China’s innings lasted less than 12 overs. At one stage, they were reeling at 17 for 5. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for only 23 runs in 11.2 overs. Not a single player could reach double-digit with opener Wei Guo Lei’s 7-run knock being the highest score.

For Malaysia, Syazrul Idrus starred with the ball, taking 7 wickets for just 8 runs in 4 overs. Chasing 24 runs, Malaysia crossed the finishing line inside 5 overs by losing two wickets.

3. Turkey:

Turkey are third in the list. In 2019, they were bowled out for just 21 runs against Czech Republic and suffered a humiliating 257-run defeat. Set an improbable target of 279 runs, Turkey’s batters failed to make any impact with the bat.

Turkey’s innings last for just 8.3 overs. Five of the top six batters could not even open their account as Turkey found themselves 7 down for just 5 runs at one stage. In the end, they were bowled out for 21 runs.  Mehmat Sert was the only player who reached double-digit mark, scoring 12 runs.

Earlier in the game, a century from Sudesh Wickramasekara and half-century from Sumit Pokhriyal helped Czech Republic post a daunting total of 278/4 in the allotted 20 overs.

4. Mongolia:

At number two in this list are Mongolia. In 2024, they were all out for just 12 runs against Japan and became only the second team to register a total of less than 15 runs in a T20I match. Batting first, Japan scored 217/7 in 20 overs. Sabaorish Ravichandran top-scored for Japan, scoring 69 runs from 39 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes.

Chasing 218 runs, Mongolia were bowled out for only 12 runs in just 8.2 overs. Not a single player from the Mongolian team managed to provide any resistance with the bat. As many as 7 players registered duck while Tur Sumya’s 4 was the best effort with the bat. 3 of those 12 runs came from extras.

For Japan, Kato-Stafford made the difference with the ball, taking an impressive 5-wicket haul. He picked up 5 wickets for just 7 runs while Abdul Samad and Makoto Taniyama picked two wickets apiece.

5. Isle of Man:

Isle of Man hold the record for scoring the lowest-ever team total in the shortest format of the game. They were bowled out for just 10 runs against Spain in 2023. Asked to bat first, Isle of Man’s innings last just 8.4 overs. As many as seven of their players could not even open their account during the disastrous display.

Joseph Burrows’ four-run knock was the best effort from the team. The 10 runs scored by Isle of Man is not only the lowest total in T20I internationals but any official T20. The record was previously held by Sydney Thunder who were bowled out for 15 runs against Adelaide Strikers in 2022.

For Spain, Mohammad Kamran starred with the ball, taking 4 four 4 including a hat-trick in the third over. Atif Mehmood also picked up 4 wickets while Lorne Burns claimed 2 wickets for Spain. With the bat, Spain chased down the total in just 2 legitimate deliveries.
