Uttar Pradesh Pest Disease Control Plan Scheme: An Overview
Ø The Government of Uttar Pradesh launched the UP Pesticide Control Scheme in 2018. However, after the tremendous success of the scheme, the government has decided to continue the scheme for another 5 years.
Ø The Uttar Pradesh Government will spend Rs. 19257.75 crore for the scheme.

Weeds and insects cause significant damage to crops every year. As a result, farmers suffer huge losses. To avoid the loss, the Uttar Pradesh Government initiated the Pest Disease Control Scheme to provide the farmers of the state with subsidies on pesticides as well as machines to spray pesticides on crops.
The scheme was implemented in Uttar Pradesh for the financial year 2017-18 and 2021-22. And now, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend the scheme for another 5 years. The government has approved the proposal of extending the scheme from the year 2022-23 to the year 2026-27.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Sri Yogi Adityanath chaired a cabinet meeting on September 6. In that meeting, he gave a green signal to the continuation of the proposal to protect farmers’ crops by applying different ecological resources. It is expected that the Pest Disease Control Scheme will cut down 15-20% of annual loss in crops due to weeds, 26% loss due to crop diseases and 20% loss due to pests.

Uttar Pradesh Pest Disease Control Scheme 2023: Highlights
The government has already announced to spend Rs. 19257.75 crore to implement the Pest Disease Control Scheme in 5 years from 2022-23 to 2026-27. Out of this, the government will spend Rs 34.17 crore in the current financial year 2022-23.
Earlier, 11, 58, 321 farmers in the UP benefited during the period from 2017-18 to 2021-22 through the scheme. Now, the scheme will provide benefits to lakhs of farmers of Uttar Pradesh in different agriculture-related works. Due to this, farmers will experience a significant increase in their income and will be able to improve their financial condition in the future.
Farmers to Receive 75% Subsidy on Organic Pesticides
Farmers will receive agricultural equipment and pesticides under the UP Pest Disease Control Scheme. The State Government will provide bio-agents and bio-pesticides for food production at 75% subsidy. At present, Integrated Pest Management System is being promoted for the control of diseases/insects/weeds.
In the states 09 I.P.M. Laboratories have been set up. Bio-pesticides such as Beauveria Vaisiana, N. P. V. and Trichoderma and bio-agents like Trichogramma Card are being produced.
Farmers to Receive 50% Subsidy on Chemical Medicines and Sprayers
Under this scheme, chemicals for agriculture protection will be made available to small and marginal farmers for the control of pests/weeds/diseases at 50% subsidy. Chemicals for agriculture protection will be provided to farmers on subsidy for 1.95 lakh hectare land area by the Uttar Pradesh Government for the financial year 2022-23. Additionally, 50% subsidy will be given to agricultural equipment like power sprayer, knapsack sprayer etc for spraying these chemicals on crops.
A total of 6, 000 agricultural protection equipment will be provided in the financial year 2022-23. Besides, the Agriculture Minister has said that according to the proposal passed in the meeting of the Council of Ministers, small and marginal farmers were provided storage facilities of 2, 3 and 5 quintals at 50 per cent subsidy in the last years for preservation of food grains for their use. Under the Uttar Pradesh Pest Disease Control Scheme, 41 lakh 42 thousand farmers will be covered from 2022 to 2027.
Uttar Pradesh Pest Disease Control Scheme 2023: Features & Benefits
o In the meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the proposal of Pest Control Plan has been approved to protect the farmers’ crops from damage.
o This scheme will be operated from the financial year 2022-23 to 2026-27.
o Through the scheme, it will be possible to reduce the loss in crops due to annual weeds by 15-20%, loss due to crop diseases by 26% and loss due to pests by 20%.
