Yesterday a report about former Indian skipper Virat Kohli went viral. It was not any cricket news; rather a report about his insane income from social media posts.
What Kohli says
When breaking the silence about the report after it went viral, the talismanic batsman said he feels blessed to have what he has got in life and added that the news of his social media earning is anything but true.
The star batsman clarified while talking about the viral report about his ₹11.45 crore earning per social media post. He quashed the report and called it rumours.
Who reported it?
StockGro, a trading and investing company in Bengaluru, shared a detailed report on Kohli’s investments, assets and revenues in June, citing some big names like Forbes, MPL, Startuptalky and DNA as their sources of information. They reported that the skipper had amassed a net worth of INR 1050 crore. They even went further to claim that Kohli charges a whopping amount of ₹2.5 crore on X (previously Twitter) and ₹8.9 crore on Instagram per post, which takes his social media income to a staggering amount of ₹11.5 crore.
Kohli is one of the star players in the Indian cricket team. The player has a huge number of fans following on social media. He is such a popular name in the world of sports that tennis icon Rodger Federer and football legends Wayne Rooney and Sergio Ramos follow him on Twitter. He is followed by 253 million people on Instagram. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is also popular on social media though he is not close to Kohli when it comes to fan following.
According to the data, Kohli occupies the 14th spot, with a large block of followers, 255,269,526, on Instagram. Hence, the fact that he earns an astronomical sum pops up no surprise. Still, when a report tumbled out yesterday regarding how much he earns from each post on Insta and X, it sounded unbelievable even to his die-hard fans. However, as the company cited some renowned sources for their information, readers could find no reason to raise doubt over the report.
Only after the post went viral, Kohli stepped in to explain that whatever had been written about his social media earning is untrue.
Kohli will be one of India’s biggest assets in the upcoming Asia Cup and ICC ODI World Cup tournaments.
